PG&E announced December 3, 2024, that the Butte Canal, fed by the diversion at Butte Head Dam will not be put back in service after the disastrous failure August 9, 2023. Final disposition of the canal will be decided in 2025. This leaves the full flow of Butte Creek below Butte Head dam in the creek for the first time in 100 years and it will never be diverted again. It seems likely that both Butte Head Dam and Centerville Head dam may be coming down in the near future.
